Many know the #climatestripes, created by Professor Ed Hawkins at the University of Reading in 2018. They are a simple series of vertical coloured bars, showing the heating of the planet over 200 years.

Not everyone knows about the Global Bio Stripes. They show the decline of wildlife from 1970 to 2016 (based on data from Living Planet Index)

How old were you before you learned that the reason there's 60 minutes in an hour is that it makes it easy to split it into equal parts (1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/10, 1/12, 1/15, 1/20 and 1/30)?

What might the history of biology look like when viewed through colonial and postcolonial encounters centered on spices? 🌶

Those who regard gulls as brutish reckon without the delicate charm of Little Gulls, as elegant a bird as you could find. This one was feeding on the slicks of flood debris along the north shore of Girdle Ness this afternoon, in lovely weird blue light.

Massive Twitter data breach was far worse than reported, reveal security researchers. https://9to5mac.com/2022/11/25/massive-twitter-data-breach/

All earthquakes visualized not just on the surface, but _inside_ the globe. And you can rotate it. It's interactive. And absolutely mind-blowing (for a non-specialist), entirely unintuitive! Those plumes!!

UK university lecturers' and other university workers' pay has been progressively cut by 25% in real terms since 2009, and our #USS pensions have been degraded by ridiculously pessimistic valuations that have turned out to be hugely wrong. Yet UK universities have a massive surplus that could easily cover the #UCU pay claim, so why are they making us have to #strike AGAIN? This shouldn't have to happen.

Rewatching rougue one and getting distinct murderbot vibes from k2so.
